Travel can teach you more than any academic course. It does not teach you the approaches to fix a bug or solving a sum, it teaches you the lifestyle and livelihood of the people, different languages and cultures, history and tradition, most of all, you learn about yourself. You get to know the inner you, your language, orientation, and social skills. You should travel because it refreshes you, motivates you.
With all the benefits of travel comes some stressors that can block the travel experience, but you don’t have to let those ruin your vacation. Today, we will take a look at a few travel hacks that can make your vacation more productive, fun, and comfortable.
- Never pay for water at the airport. Bring an empty bottle to the airport and refill it after you’ve passed through security.
- Mark your baggage as fragile. Your bag is more likely to be handled correctly and placed at the top of the pile in the storage compartment of the plane.
- Use ATMs/cash machines to get local currency. Money converters usually have their fees and rip-off exchange rates.
- Avoid bulky clothing. Pick your fabrics wisely too.
- Use Google Maps offline by typing “OK Maps” and the visible area will save for future access.
- Scan your passport, identification card, and other documents and email them to yourself. This provides an extra copy of each in the event of loss or theft.
- Roll your clothes when packing. Instead of creating a folded pile in your suitcase, rolling allows you to fit more things in. This will save a ton of space and stop creases and wrinkles. Plus, you can even roll innerwear and socks within your shoes for optimal space-saving.
- Buy a portable phone charger. Worth having one of these in case your phone is out of power.
- Use straws and tic-tac containers to carry spices. You can easily store your spices in cut-up straws or empty tic-tac containers.
- If you're just going away for a day or two and don't want to carry all your cosmetics and moisturizers with you, a contact lens case makes the perfect little container for whatever you'll need.
- Bring some baby powder for a quick freshen-up. Especially in the summer, if you’re wearing flats or sandals, your feet (and footwear) will surely start smelling. Throwing some baby powder on them is a quick way to deodorize and make you feel good.
- Instead of a hotel, look into reserving a home if traveling with a family or group of friends, or a single room if alone.
- When in your room, remove only the needed items from your luggage. Trying to make yourself at home by taking out every pair of shoes & clothes and all of your toiletries will only make repacking a living hell, and it increases your chances of forgetting something when it’s time to go home.
- If you forget your wall plug, you can charge devices through the USB slot on a TV.
- Shop for groceries when you arrive. You don’t have to shop for a feast, but getting basics like water and a few snacks in local stores can save you a ton. Supermarkets are great for stocking up on snacks, water, drinks, etc. Take advantage of them!
Follow these tips and make your next adventure a little bit easier.
